Supplementary Courses and Activities

In addition to our core programs, at Wafid we also offer supplementary courses depending on student demand at our school. Some of the courses that we organize include Arabic Calligraphy, Tajweed, Quranic Arabic, Media Arabic and Arabic for Specific Purposes.

Classes for these supplementary courses are based on demand and availability, and usually takes place twice a week. Supplementary courses are not integrated into the regular curriculum, but are designed to complement your main program without interfering with it. For special group studies the classes might be arranged daily per mutual agreement and prior arrangement.

Arabic Calligraphy

In this course, students will learn about the importance of Arabic Calligraphy in Arab society, as well as its history, development, varying types and common characteristics of the artform. Students will examine and discuss samples of historical and contemporary calligraphy and will gain an appreciation of the beauty of Arabic Calligraphy, while practicing to improve their writing of the Arabic script.

Tajweed, which is a course on the rules governing the pronunciation of the words in the Arabic language, is absolutely indispensable for any serious student of the Arabic language. Students will learn how to accurately pronounce the Arabic alphabet, identify and apply the points of articulation (Makhaarij al-Huroof), and will learn the basic rules of Tajweed and its applications. Students will practice recitation of the Qur’an with correct Tajweed and will study the famous classical poem, al-Jazariyyah, to gain an in-depth knowledge of rules of tajweed.  Tajweed is an invaluable course for students who are interested in advanced levels.

Quranic Arabic

Students who have an inclination to understand the Quran quickly and effectively can enroll in this course. Emphasis will be placed on  reading the Quran and mastering the vocabulary of the Quran along with the correct meaning and context to enhance your understanding of the text, not only when actively reading and reciting, but when passively listening to the recitation, as well.

Media Arabic

This course is particularly relevant for those students who are aspiring journalists or wish to build a career in International Relations. Following the news on a regular basis is crucial for anyone who wants to understand the Middle East. We use popular  magazines and news channels to help you get acquainted with the media vocabulary.

Arabic for Specific Purposes

Students are also invited to petition for their own custom-designed courses based on their requirements to meet a specific goal. Depending on the availability of the tutors, we are willing to create a course customized especially for you.
